Microsoft's Visual Basic Scripting Edition, or VBScript, is a lightweight scripting language originally developed for use in client-side scripts run by a web browser. Since its release, it has also become thé primary scripting language used in Active Server Pages (ASP) applications, as well as in Windows Script Host (WSH) scripts and programmable Outlook forms. In view of its significance and popularity, it's surprising that VBScript is minimally documented in a single rather tiare-bones HTML Help file that accompanies VBScript itself. But in VBScript in a Nutshell, you'll find thé complete documentation that you need to put the VBScript language to effective use when developing your scripts. The bulk of the book consists of an alphabetical reference to the statements, procedures, and functions of the VBScript language, as well as to the objects, properties, and methods of the Microsoft Scripting Runtime Library. Each entry has a standardized listing containing the following information: • The keyword's syntax, using standard code conventions • A list of arguments accepted by the function or procedure, if any exist • A discussion of how and where the keyword should be used within the scripting environment • A section of notes and solutions to réal-world gotchas, and various undocumented behaviors and aspects of the language that help you avoid potential problems • A discussion of thé différences between the opération of the keyword in Visual Basic or VBA and in VBScript Regardless of how much experience you have programming with VBScript, this is the book you'll pick up time and time again, both as your standard reference guide to the language and as a tool for troubleshooting and identifying programming problems. VBScript in a Nutshell is the definitive reference for anyone writing scripts with VBScript.
