Originally published in 1970, Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr. Fox introduced the world to some of the most beloved and unforgettable characters in children's literature. When Mr. Fox's animal instincts get the better of him and he resumes the life of a poultry thief, he angers the three local farmers - Boggis, Bunce, and Bean - and endangers not only his family but the whole animal community as well. Now, writer and director Wes Anderson brings us his take on Dahl's classic story.
Immersing himself in Dahl's environment, Anderson worked with Noah Baumbach and Liccy Dahl, Roald's widow, to create new characters and expand on the original, and in his first stop-motion picture has created a film that is as true to the spirit of Roald Dahl's story as it is to his own vision as an auteur. The Making of Fantastic Mr. Fox is an intricate and lavishly illustrated look behind the scenes at the extraordinary talent and attention that went into the creation of the film - from Wes Anderson's storyboards, notes, and sketches to in-depth explorations of the construction of the puppets, and from Eric Anderson's early artwork for the cast of characters to Ray Lewis's beautiful photographs of the sets.
With an introduction by Michael Specter, as well as interviews with Liccy Dahl, Eric Anderson, Jason Schwartzman, and Wes Anderson himself, the material in this book presents a definitive picture of the creative process behind the latest movie from one of the most inventive directors working in cinema today.
