Mahler 3 - the second of three symphonies which are settings of texts from the poetry collection 'Des Knaben Wunderhorn'. Often described as the greatest of his compositions. Mahler 9 - the last completed symphony ; composed in a creative frenzy as the farewell of a great, superstitious composer ; often regarded as his work of highest compositional value and as a transition to a new musical era.
