The papers presented in this volume are edited versions of research describing the goals, scope and findings of various studies into the nature of language learning and teaching, in order to identify what is relevant to the practical problems of foreign language learning and teaching as well as teacher training. The first paper examines from a theoretical and pedagogical point of view the appropriateness of current EST materials and identifies the most effective approach for the presentation of these materials. The second one deals with the preparation of EFL/ESP teachers and their attitudes to language learning. A model syllabus of EFL/ESP teacher training has been developed. The third one investigates the relationship between a number of attitudinal and motivational variables and achievement measure in English language for EFL students. The fourth paper complements the third one in terms of teachers' and pupils' interest and motivation, the provision of suitable language support for EFL teachers and pupils, syllabus and textbooks, audio-visual aids and methodology. The final one evaluates the effectiveness of video in the foreign language classroom.
