Biographie de Corliss Richard Arnold

Corliss R. Arnold (B.Mus., Hendrix College ; M.Mus., University of Michigan ; S.M.D., Union Theological Seminary, New York City) is Professor Emeritus of Music, Michigan State University, where he taught for thirty-two years as head of the Organ Department. He was director of the university Church Music Workshop for over twenty years. From 1959 until 1992 Dr. Arnold was director of music at The Peoples Church, East Lansing, MI.
He earned the Associateship, Fellowship and Choir Master certificates from the American Guild of Organists, served that organization on the national council from Regional V, and was national director of the Guild Student Groups on college and university campuses. He is the author of several texts for the preparation of national examinations for the Guild. As ecclesiastical musician Dr. Arnold has served churches in New Jersey, Arkansas, Illinois, Michigan and New York where he conducted major choral works.
He was a Fulbright scholar to France in 1956-57 where he studied organ with André Marchai and at the Paris Conservatoire National with Nadia Boulanger. He has twice attended the Summer Organ Academy in Haarlem and has studied privately with Marie-Claire Alain. In 1978 one of his organ compositions was selected for performance at the Bicentennial Parade of American Music at Kennedy Center, Washington, D.
C. Dr. and Mrs. Arnold now reside in Venice, Florida, where he Is studying foreign languages and teaching English as a second language.
