A story to build self-esteem in children, "Who Needs Spots Anyway?" is a story about a ladybug and her mother. Catie is a little ladybug who realizes when she starts school that she's different from the other ladybugs: she doesn't have any spots. Catie slowly begins to build her self-esteem with the help of her mother and a beautiful thing happens to her. This story teaches children that everyone is different and that's a wonderful thing.
How boring would life be if everyone were the same? This story was inspired by my daughter's trials and tribulations in elementary school when she felt "different" from everyone else because she didn't have a father. Rather than writing a children's story about the loss of a parent, I chose to create a brightly colorful book to help young children who are feeling different for any sort of reason in the hopes of helping build their self-esteem.
This book is also available in hard copy through Etsy and I will be happy to personalize your book upon request.

À propos de l'auteur

Biographie de Mary Lotorto-Soroka

I am a Jersey girl by heart and am now loving life by the beach in Southern New Jersey, enjoying the beautiful nature it abounds. I was an accountant for over twenty years and when my daughter was only three, decided to switch gears when my husband died to do something I have always wanted to do; write and illustrate children's books. Everyone has a story to tell, so why not tell it? I enjoyed writing and illustrating stories through the eyes of a child throughout my daughter's childhood.
My books range from her foreign adoption story, low self esteem and bullying, to our two silly cats. My writing shifted to helping others draw parallels to my own life. My latest non-fiction book, The First Time Without You, is based on a journal I maintained after the sudden loss of my husband. I hope through my grief process to help others living through the same loss. My current work is a book of short stories, poems, and thoughts which I will publish soon.
I look forward to reading any feedback my readers wish to send to help me strive to give them what they want.
