This includes the dark sides as well as the bright. Sometimes even reality is warped, as it does in the near-future tales about the power of words ("The Death Sentence") and the violent outcomes of over-crowded cities ("The Deck"). Quite often, the people in Jasper's stories are overwhelmed and at the end of their ropes, like the protagonists of the four final, loosely connected stories in the collection.
