One hot summer night, when sweat was streaming down our backs like rain off a tin roof, was the blurry beginning of it all. With our feet propped up on the rail, we laughed heartily while sitting on the front porch. Despite the fact that our souls ought to be too dissimilar to get along, we somehow mesh. That is occasionally the case. Before you know it, the people who enter your life become woven into the very fabric of your narrative.
Furthermore, there was nothing refined about it. There were too many people behind as the outside world spun too quickly. Ignored, discarded, simply abandoned to drift with the breeze. However, we didn't just sit there and discuss rescuing people. No, it wasn't that impressive. There was a more subdued consensus, an underlying sense that we would take action. something significant. To us, not to the outside world.
additionally to them. The ones that were off the radar. Now that I think about it, I can still hear the city's grind and how it ate people up. People were drowning in the noise, in their past, in their struggles, all around us, and no one was even noticing. None of those people were on any lists. They didn't have a plan. The world wouldn't stop if they vanished tomorrow. It struck me like a tonkatsu.
However, we weren't the kind to wave banners or deliver long speeches. Our idea did not originate in a boardroom where strangers gathered around a table to decide what was best for each other. Like us, it was unkempt. It resulted from harsh realities and late-night talks. from witnessing how the world ate the best of us and then spat us back out. Knowing that there was nothing we could do to change everything, but perhaps-just possibly-we could create something that would uplift others, give them a home, and help them feel seen once more.
