Their secret is one that has survived thousands of years. Without them humanity would have become extinct long ago.
Today, their small number can be found on each continent hidden within societies. If discovered chances were against them that humans would be so terrified by what their presence meant, that they would kill them all. Ignoring the fact that they existed for the sole purpose of protecting the human species. It is the way of human nature to fear anything it does not understand. A fear that was genetically engineered at the beginning to ensure that help always proved elusive.
By revealing themselves and the monsters that they prevented from consuming human spirits was considered overwhelming for humans at the beginning of the 21st century. Such knowledge would push humanity beyond the scope of its meagre understanding of how the universe operated. Evil had denigrated the term witch by suggesting it related to dark magic that was best avoided. In truth witches had formed covens on each continent around the world operating from them to defend humanity from the demons and other wicked creatures that traversed between dimensions.
One such coven based in Belfast was famous among their kind for its resourcefulness and ability to defeat hordes of demons over many centuries. This is their story.
