11 year-old Winnie Turner is thrown into a real-life adventure of her own when her father - rumored to be the head of a criminal organization - is unexpectedly released from prison and she discovers the quilt her late mother left her is an Underground Railroad to keep her one step ahead of his henchmen. Each square in the quilt is a character from her mother's past, with clues about who Ayesha Turner was, and why she abandoned her only daughter to the winds of fate.
Along the way, Winnie learns the surprising truth about the parents she never knew, and the people they left behind to look after her.
