The Team They Have Been Waiting For: A Short Story

A few fallen leaves twist and tumble across a sidewalk. Flags wave and flutter in the breeze. It's so quiet, you can hear the clips of the flags as they tap against the poles. The various buildings on the university campus are quiet and still. There's no one around. The grounds are deserted. But they aren't, not really. It's just that the students, the teachers-and the town-are gathered in one, specific place.
There's only one place that can bring the entire town together, a break in their daily schedules. The college's football stadium. Word has it that the school has a good team this year-maybe even great. There's a chance they could go all the way. Wouldn't that be something? This could be it. The school, the town-this could be the team they have been waiting for.
