About the AuthorTom Olshanski has been a member of the fire service for 50 years inmultiple roles. He has served in both volunteer and career firefighterdepartments. His last 20 years have been spent as the Director of ExternalAffairs for the United States Fire Administration in Washington DC.. Tomhas received two-lifetime achievement awards. One was from the NationAssociation of Government Communicators, and the second was from theFlorida Fire Chiefs Association, Public Information Group.
Tom has been anadjunct instructor for numerous courses for FEMA's EmergencyManagement Institute (EMI) since 1989. He has authored several coursesand participated in many efforts to prepare community safety personnel forWorld Cup Soccer (1994), Super Bowls, the Olympics, and NationalPolitical Conferences (both republican and Democratic). Tom has also beeninvolved in many large-scale national emergencies, Hurricanes Floyd, Katrina, and Sandy, including numerous other flooding and tornado storms.

This brief listing makes it easy to see why he has been an often-called-upon conference speaker, seminar presenter, high-levelspeech writer, and frequent media guest/spokesperson. In 2004, Tompresented the his mantra "Everyone Goes Home" to the National FallenFirefighter Foundation. Tom has committed throughout his career to "Getthe RIGHT information, to the RIGHT people, at the RIGHT time so thatindividuals can make the RIGHT decision to protect and ensure their safetyand the safety of loved ones".
