The theme in this book is the need to align all the efforts in an Information Technology shop. The chapters describe the need for vision, best practices for projects, operations, governance and how to measure the results. The book is filled with short stories about how things really work today and how they will be better tomorrow. Too many initiatives focus on one aspect of the organization. But an improved measurement system only highlights flaws in other aspects.
And an improved project management system will not improve operational efficiency. It is necessary to adjust all of the components in order to change the system.
