Subbarayana Shash?hi is an important Vrata observed in the month of Margasira. Though its scriptural name is 'Skandashash?hi', since the Lord is famously known by names such as 'Skanda', 'Sha?mukha', 'Kumara' etc, is called 'Subrahma?yesvara' in tradition, the vrata parva of Shash?hi tithi (related to his special) worship is called 'Subbarayana Shash?hi' in custom, where the word Subbarayana is the kannada version of the Sanskrit word of Subrahma?ya Raja.
