The year is 115 A. D. After two years of conquest, Emperor Caesar Traianus has annexed both Armenia and vassal kingdoms of northern Mesopotamia. His gaze turns south, his armies poised to march down the Tigris and Euphrates. Parthian resistance evaporates before his legions, like water drops incinerated by the burning desert sun. His division of legionary and auxilia troops advances through scorching sands, battling the land itself as much as the Parthians. While their focus remains fixed on reaching the Persian Gulf, their hearts ever long for the fair shores of Albion. King Osroes of Parthia broods within the walls of his palace at Ctesiphon. A temporary truce with Vologases, his eastern rival to the Parthian throne, grants him reprieve to face Trajan's legions.
Osroes musters the grunds, his great armies of Parthian horse archers and armoured cataphracts. While Trajan marches south to the Persian Gulf, the Parthians quickly move to liberate northern Mesopotamia and Armenia.
