What is Central Asia good at? Efficiency matters. An economy is said to be efficient when all factors of production are allocated appropriately to their most valuable uses with the minimization of waste. This is not the definition for Central Asia. The economy of Central Asia is coming to question as China moves into the region with an economic corridor. Central Asia has been in the interest of many, and with China pouring in the finances for infrastructure development, Central Asia is to reciprocate with confidence that it too can be seen as China's equal.
It has not been the case ever since the global pricing plunge. With the Belt and Road initiative still in its infancy, drastic measures are needed to reform the five Stan countries. At present, it is China giving and Central Asia receiving. China has vowed to take a series of major reforms and opening-up measures and to make stronger institutional and structural moves to boost higher quality of opening-up of its economic sectors.
Will Central Asia do the same? This book scrutinises each economic sector using Data Envelopment Analysis to investigate Central Asia's readiness in this colossal endeavour. For this to work out, a decision must be taken based on the assessment outcomes. What will Central Asia do?
