The tall, ruggedly handsome Confederate officer was wearing a torn, dirty uniform; but, he was smiling, and seemed to be in a very happy mood. This was only natural because he had left behind the danger and hardships of the battlefield, at least until his arm healed. Actually, it was his thumb that had suffered the worst of his injuries. After the train left the station, Captain Clay Harper settled back to relax while looking at the white wintry landscape that was passing by. Once he grew tired of that, he glanced around the car to see who his traveling companions were. Most seemed to be farmers going to Richmond to sell their produce. There was also a few wounded soldiers, who were suffering from battlefield injuries, like him. After a moment, he noticed one passenger who caught his interest. She was sitting apart from the other passengers, and it didn't look like she was interested in having company.
