The book, i.e. Novel, titled Ragini (the central character) is a pen-picture of the distressing life of a Transgender, generally called Hijra, who, in the first phase of her life was unaware of gender and gradually came to know that she is not acceptable either in the family or in the society. She had a profound passion for learning and through hardship, social phycological oppression and various other ordeals ultimately crowned with success and achieved a brilliant school/ academic degree. However, afterwards she was compelled to leave her sweet home and the society to lead the life of a transgender ie Hijra. Her dream from childhood was to live in the society with honour and prestige. She could not withstand the tortuous life of a transgender and left the group of the transgenders. Luck favoured her, she was enrolled as a sepoy and succeeded in restoring peace and order of an area of tribal habitation though in the struggle against the terrorists she had to sacrifice one of her eyes. She fought against the society undauntedly and never cowed down to any adversity. In her tumultuous voyage she was fortunate to get some people who directly or indirectly extended their helping hands on the realisation of her cherished ambition- a prestigious life. The Novel focuses on the inconceivable sorrowful life of a transgender, called Hijra, together with unprecedented success which will be a source of inspiration to all. It is a little endeavour to awaken the society and and an appeal thereby to treat these people as human beings.
