If David could wish for only one thing, it would be to go back and NOT respond to the dare. Why was that it was always him that found himself in these situations? Now he is stuck between a rock and a hard place in the very true sense of the word, and there is nothing he can do to make any of it better. Would anyone actually miss him if he didn't make it back inside the safety of the complex?This is the situation David finds himself in, and his actions are about to have consequences on everyone around him in ways he could never have imagined in his wildest dreams (and that is saying something).
