Subway reconnected with Tom, the retiree who led him safely down Webster Cliffs!    Their "buddy hike" continued south through the wonderfully soft trails of Vermont, just in time to see forests turn their famous fall colors.
Another surprise was picking fresh apples from the many abandoned apple trees.     Less than three weeks later, in a freezing rain, they entered North Adams, Massachusetts, near Mt.
