In the inaugural issue of Mother Earth, a radical socialist journal, Maxim Gorky pens a powerful introduction that sets the tone for the publication's mission. Gorky decries the injustices of capitalism, the exploitation of the working class, and the suppression of free speech. He calls for a revolution to overthrow the existing order and establish a society based on equality and justice. Mother Earth became a platform for radical voices, publishing the works of Emma Goldman, Alexander Berkman, and other prominent anarchists and socialists.
