Mermaid's Rescue

Trent's content in his life as a diesel mechanic on a cargo ship. The life can be dull while out to sea but it was often book ended by adventures on shore that made it all worth it. This voyage, though, turns out to be anything but quiet. He awakens on a small island, stranded from the sinking ship and unsure of where they last where. All he knows is that it's somewhere alone in the south Pacific with little survival skills and only a multi-tool at his disposal.
Using what he can remember from various survival shows he fashions a makeshift shelter and a small fish trap in the lagoon that miraculously is always holding a fish after the tide goes out. For several days he settles into a routine, till one night he finally hears the sounds of laughter coming from the lagoon. Sneaking out he sees a sight that for all his life he'd dismissed as fantasy, a pair of mermaids in the lagoon.
The encounter with them will change both his and their lives forever.
