Humanity has forgotten more gods than it cares to remember, and few people in the world know that better than Eileen Hao. For years, she's been the priestess to a pantheon of gods that have been forgotten. History and time have moved on and left them behind, with only her to remember them and connect them to the human experience. And it's not a bad life, as far as Eileen is concerned. Until one of them has gone missing in a way that makes her feel like there's something else going on.
And there's the little issue of her dancing around her growing crush on a death goddess that's determined to draw lines that should not be crossed. And why does she feel like she's forgetting something? It's going to be an eventful day for Eileen Hao, all thanks to the machinations of forgotten gods.
