Young Jeff Carvers ran as fast as his legs could carry him. He was a young man, and in fair health. He was a good sprinter, and used to hard work, but there was no way that his legs would be able to outrun a horse. Jeff heard the hoofbeats beating down behind him. It was hopeless, but Jeff still ran. His very life depended on this, and he had to do something. Unfortunately, there was just no way he could win this race."Gotcha!" Jeff felt the hard and cruel impact of a club on his back.
Jeff felt a sharp pain in his spine, and he lost all feeling in his legs. He collapsed on the ground.
