Doctor Matthew Francis is an MD who spent much of his years as a medical student teaching other students, conducting research, and organising parties, instead of learning himself. He graduated as an MD in 2020 from the University of Pavia, Italy. He has a BSc with honours in Physiology from King's College London from 2012. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked in Emergency Departments in northern Italy, which scarred and hardened him to clinical realities.
He now lives in Dublin.
Professor Maria Giovanna Ruberto was the head of the Department of Bioethics at the University of Pavia in Italy from 2002 till her retirement in 2021. She graduated as an MD in 1975 and was specialised in Internal Medicine and Clinical Immunology in 1980. In 1988 she was offered the position of associate professor in Clinical Immunology at the University of Pavia. In 1993 she began her journey in Medical Ethics with successive positions in hospital ethics committees and ethics societies in Europe.
This culminated in a career shift in 2002 with the formation of the first department of Bioethics run by a medical doctor in Italy.
