Beside The Point

Canarino's future could be simple if he listens to his father and heads off at the end of the summer to study English. He could, equally, take up Wilky's offer of an apprenticeship after the holiday. His mother wishes only that he is happy. A friend from the city arrives to celebrate the impending festival of Saint Benedict. She epitomises everything he wants to avoid. He knows that, if he were to follow his heart, he would need to declare himself to Tobe, the man he secretly loves, and trust to fate that everything would work out.
Things come to a head at the party.
